Remembrance Services
Each year, on Remembrance Sunday, the Church of England joins the nation in giving thanks for those who gave their lives in times of war and conflict, especially during the two World Wars. It is a moment of solemn reflection and gratitude — a time to honour courage, self-sacrifice, and the cost of peace. We remember not to glorify war, but to acknowledge its human toll and to renew our commitment to reconciliation and hope.
The Church holds this act of remembrance as a sacred duty, standing alongside communities across the country in prayer and silence. It is a reminder that peace is both a gift and a calling — entrusted to us by God, and sustained only when we seek justice, understanding, and compassion in our world today.
Remembrance Services Across The Six:
Information about Services in The Six Benefice will be posted here in November each year.
LEST WE FORGET.
A Prayer for Remembrance:
Almighty and eternal God,
from whose love in Christ we cannot be parted,
either by death or life:
hear our prayers and thanksgivings
for all who gave their lives in war
for the cause of justice and peace.
As we remember their sacrifice,
grant us grace to seek reconciliation in our own time,
and to build a world where all may live in freedom,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
